Automatic Dumpy Levels are tough, general duty surveying tools ideal for all types of construction levelling work. They are a levelling instrument in the horizontal plane only, and can be known as a builders level or automatic level.
Tripod height should be set so the dumpy level it at eye level. Foot screws/levelling screws are used to approximately level the instrument, whilst the internal components of the dumpy level will correct itself providing an accurate level line of sight.
When in use, the surveyor looks through an optical eyepiece at the staff to determine ground levels at various locations around site. The 24x telescope allows the user to take a precise reading from the staff.
